OBJECTIVES

Teresa May describes modern slavery as the great human rights issue of our time. As Home Secretary she introduced the Modern Slavery Act, which contains a ground-breaking transparency provision requiring organisations over a certain size to disclose each year what action they have taken to ensure there is no modern slavery in their operations or supply chains. This Modern Slavery Act 2015 course considers the practical implications of the Act – it only applies explicitly to larger organisations but its effects are already being felt by SMEs. Delegates will learn about the key indicators of modern slavery risk and the type of actions they should be taking to prevent it – in their own business and in their suppliers. They will review specimen transparency statements and consider the key issue of reputational risk around non-compliance. The course is highly interactive with practical tips, case studies and lessons learned from a review of recent cases and headlines.
