Accounting for Financial Instruments under FRS 102 – A Practical Guide

FRS 102 was adopted in the UK in 2015. This course provides an introduction to the principles behind the accounting entries for financial instruments under the standard. The course involves practical application of the accounting principles with a comprehensive case study involving the accounting entries for the financial instruments.

Accounting for Subsidiaries – IFRS 10 and IFRS 3

IFRS 10 and IFRS 12 have been effective for a number of years and together with IFRS 3 they provide the requirements for identifying a subsidiary, conducting the purchase price allocation exercise on acquisition, calculating goodwill, accounting for step acquisitions and changes in ownership in addition to the disclosure requirements. This course will explore the detailed requirements of these three standards through the use of company financial statements, illustrations and exercises. It also provides an overview of any technical developments or proposals in this area.

Accounting in France, Germany and Italy

This course examines the major features of financial reporting by companies under French, German and Italian law. The requirements are illustrated with practical examples from real French, German and Italian companies. Contrasts are made with UK, US and IFRS accounting.

The content can be tailored by removing one or more of the three countries; or by removing one or more of the comparisons.

Accounting Principles 1 – Posting Basic Transactions – Session 1 & 2

This course will explore the mystery of double entry postings, and other basic accounting principles necessary for those involved in various book-keeping and finance related tasks. It will help illustrate how entries are posted in computerised accounting ledgers and will show how sales, purchases and other accounting transactions relate to each other.  Case studies and worked examples will be used to give detailed explanations of how the fundamental accounting concepts work, are updated and interact with each other. Delegates will be given the opportunity to work through examples that reflect realistic everyday transactions they would come across in practice.

Accounting Principles 2 – Accounting Adjustments

This Accounting Principles 2 – Accounting Adjustments course builds on the basic principles covered in the Accounting Principles 1 – Posting Basic Transactions course and provides an understanding of why and how these ledgers interact and have to be reconciled.

Sessions will also explain how assets and liabilities are recorded, adjusted and valued as necessary, especially at period end. Case studies and worked examples will be used as detailed explanations of how the fundamental accounting concepts work, are updated and interact with each other. Delegates are given the opportunity to work through examples that reflect realistic everyday transactions they would come across in practice.

Accounting Principles for Tax Department Staff

This one-day course provides tax department staff with the core accounting principles they need to be aware of to be effective.  The course covers basic accounting principles and the impact of recent UK and international accounting standards including FRS 102.

Advanced Communication and Presentation Skills

Becoming a more effective communicator enables you to increase value in all your relationships, both within and outside the business. This workshop will enable you to develop your communication techniques in your business writing, in meetings and in making presentations.  

Advanced Transfer Pricing – Loans and other Financial Transactions

Almost all multinational groups are obliged by transfer pricing legislation to determine the arm’s length interest rate on intragroup loans. Despite the ubiquity of these issues, the OECD Transfer Pricing Guidelines have little to say about loans and other financial transactions – nor do most textbooks. This Advanced Transfer Pricing course aims to provide a practical guide to how to apply transfer pricing rules to such transactions.

The course is not specific to any particular country; it is based on international norms. Nor is it specific to any industry; it covers transactions that arise in almost all industries.
